Laurien is a native of Rwanda, and lives in Pittsburgh, PA. He attended the University of Pittsburgh, graduating with a Master’s of Science in Epidemiology and Global Health certificate. Since May 2011, he started working as a Research Assistant before becoming a Research Coordinator for Diabetes in Developing World, a joint program between the University of Pittsburgh, the International Diabetes ‘Life for A Child program and the Rwanda Diabetes Association. He has been working with a New York based non-profit organization called Marjorie’s Fund. He is the founder of Pillar of Health, a non-profit to assist children/youth living with type 1 diabetes in Rwanda to obtain health insurance.
