Kayo Waki, MD, MPH, PhD

Dr. Waki is an associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics, Graduate School of Medicine, the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, specializing in the development and use of mobile health. She is a leading clinical investigator of telemedicine in Japan. She has developed several mobile application systems to support self-management of patients with diabetes and has conducted several clinical studies to evaluate efficacy of those systems. Dr. Waki received the M.D. degree from Yokohama City University in 1997, the MPH degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2004, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Tokyo in 2003. Dr. Waki is the lead investigator for the development of a novel therapeutic strategy for diabetic kidney disease using information and communication technology. She is conducting a controlled multicenter trial for the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development of an outpatient mobile application, with results expected by the middle of the next year.
